Etsy vs Shopify Fees: which platform costs less?

The part the table does not show: order volume

The comparison above assumes 50 Shopify orders per month, which spreads the $29 Shopify Basic plan across enough sales to make the per-order overhead feel small. Change the order count and the answer changes with it.

On a $25 item, Shopify only beats Etsy on raw fees if you are doing roughly 17 orders per month or more. On a $10 item, you need closer to 36 orders per month before the monthly plan stops being the expensive part.

When Etsy wins

Etsy is easier to justify when you are early, have inconsistent sales volume, or depend on marketplace discovery. There is no monthly platform bill to cover before the first order lands.

What about Amazon Handmade and WooCommerce?
